Georgia DDA 6-Hour Defensive Driver & Driver Improvement Practice Exam

Using headlights during rain, fog, or low visibility is essential for ensuring both your safety and the safety of others on the road. In these conditions, visibility can be severely reduced, making it difficult for drivers to see clearly. Headlights help illuminate the road ahead and increase your visibility to other drivers.

In particular, fog can reflect light back into the driver’s eyes, so it's important to use low beam headlights to reduce glare. This practice not only aids in seeing the road better but also allows other vehicles to spot you more easily, decreasing the chances of accidents.

While using headlights only at night is a common belief, it fails to address conditions where they are needed during the day due to reduced visibility. Driving in urban areas may not always necessitate headlights, depending on the time of day and weather. Signaling other drivers with headlights has its place but is not the primary function of headlights; their main purpose remains vehicle illumination and visibility in lower-light conditions.
